Buying New Combination Boilers

A boiler is a type of central heating unit that will use hot water or steam to heat a certain amount of space. When you are buying one of these units for your home or business it is important to search long and hard. These are not cheap and could cost you as much as $10,000 to buy and install it.

Size

Before you begin your search it is important to know how large or small the unit needs to be. It used to be that you would base this information on the square footage of the space you are trying to heat.

This does not work anymore. Instead you will use different factors to determine the amount of heat loss that can occur throughout the entire area. This is based on insulation levels, building design, and climate.

Efficiency

It is important to find a unit that is going to be able to save you money as much as possible. One of the best ways that it can do this is to work efficiently. Compare the efficiency levels for each unit that you are looking at.

This should be listed as the annual fuel utilization efficiency or the AFUE. This number is the percentage of the energy that is being used when converted into heat. You want to look for a boiler with a rating of 85% or higher.

Cost

The last thing you will need to consider is the amount of money you will spend overall. This cost will include the amount you pay for a new unit, how much the installation will cost, and any repairs that will need to be made in the future. Remember to choose one that is within your budget and does not have anymore features on it that you will not find useful.

A great way to evaluate the amount you will spend is to divide the total cost by the BTUs of the boiler. This will give you an estimated cost per unit of heat that you are getting. In the end it will tell you if the unit is really worth it.
